Winemaker’s tasting notes: This wine is soft, subtle and savoury in the European tradition and clean, fresh and polished as are the best Aussie reds. After many vintages in Spain and Portugal, Andrew Birks felt that Tempranillo , the great Rioja varietal, was perfectly suited to the soil types and climate of the south western slopes of NSW and has introduced it to the Bidgeebong varietal collection. The result is classic ‘Old World’ wine made with ‘New World’ techniques by a winemaker who happily crosses the divide of European tradition and Australian inventiveness. This wine is soft, subtle and savoury in the European tradition yet clean, fresh and polished as are the best Aussie reds. The price is for a case of 6 x 750ml bottles.
